Courts Service launches first Irish language strategy
The Courts Service of Ireland has launched its first Irish language strategy, marking a significant step toward becoming a fully bilingual organisation. With 44 actions across six priority areas, the three-year plan aims to make the Irish language more visible, accessible, and actively used across all service points — from courtrooms to online portals.
Key goals include creating a central Irish language office, enhancing service quality in Irish, recruiting bilingual staff, and rolling out a comprehensive training programme for existing employees.
Irish Language Strategy Manager Donal Ó Gallachóir emphasized that the strategy will ensure no delays or obstacles for those seeking to use Irish, and that the language will be “actively welcomed and encouraged” within the organisation.
Learn how this new strategy will support Irish speakers and strengthen the role of An Ghaeilge in the Irish justice system.
