Irish Medtech, the Ibec group representing Ireland's medical technology sector, has appointed Fionn Lahart, founder and chief executive officer of LUMA Vision, as association chair. Lahart brings two decades of leadership experience spanning senior roles at lifesciences companies including AltaScience, Vasorum, Nypro Healthcare, and FIRE1.
Business Plus reported that the appointment aligns with Irish Medtech's strategic focus on empowering founders as outlined in its 2026-2029 strategy.
As LUMA Vision chief executive, Lahart has secured $80 million (€73 million) in venture funding and scaled the organisation to 70 people across Dublin and Munich, positioning the company as a disruptive innovator developing next-generation cardiac navigation and imaging platforms for treating cardiac arrhythmias and structural heart disease.
Dr Eoghan Ó Faoláin, director of Irish Medtech, said: "Empowered founders is a central pillar of the Irish Medtech Strategy 2026-2029 'Innovating for Patients, Driving Prosperity.' Under our new strategy, we aim to unlock breakthrough technologies and attract global investment by equipping medtech founders with the necessary support."
Fionn Lahart said: "I'm honoured to assume the role of Irish Medtech Chair. With as many as four out of five companies being startups or SMEs it's great to represent founders in this leadership role. My goals for my tenure include making Ireland not just as a global medtech hub, but recognised as a founder factory where entrepreneurs are encouraged to start, scale, and be proud of founding medtech businesses."
Lahart outlined priorities including showcasing company founding as a career path, advocating for aligned ecosystems to navigate funding hurdles, regulatory compliance, and clinical collaboration challenges, and encouraging founders to think globally from inception.
