The Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) has held its Annual Advisory Council meeting, bringing together past presidents and current president Jose Teodoro Limcaoco to discuss the association's key initiatives and strategic priorities. The meeting included Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso, a former BAP president, highlighting coordination between the banking sector and major public financial institutions.
The Manila Times reported that BAP officers presented updates on ongoing programmes whilst former presidents offered insights and recommendations to guide current leadership.
The advisory council format reflects the association's approach to institutional continuity, enabling former leaders to contribute expertise whilst ensuring strategic alignment across generations. The gathering addressed governance, risk management, and financial stability priorities for the Philippine banking system.
Jose Arnulfo Veloso said: "Strong institutions are built on continuity and collaboration. When industry leaders work together, we reinforce financial stability and support long-term economic growth."
Veloso added that he was honoured to be part of the distinguished group of leaders who, across generations, have helped shape the stability, integrity, and progress of the country's financial system.
As head of the pension fund for government workers and one of the Philippines' largest institutional investors, Veloso's participation highlighted alignment between the banking sector and major public financial institutions in safeguarding the broader financial system.
The meeting reaffirmed the industry's commitment to sound governance and prudent risk management, with leaders pledging to continue working together to strengthen the Philippine banking system. The advisory council structure demonstrates how banking associations maintain institutional memory and ensure strategic coherence through structured engagement between past and current leadership.
