Reflecting on last year’s awards, the Association and Institutes Awards placed publishing at the centre of the conversation about member value. The Best Publication category rewarded content that equips professionals to act, not simply to read.

The category winner was the Freight Transport Association Ireland, for Decarbonising Road Freight Sector Ireland, the first dedicated freight decarbonisation report in the country. Judges commended its clarity, ambition and depth, noting that it addressed a critical gap in Ireland’s climate discourse. Its practical, data-driven pathways for fleet operators navigating alternative fuels turned a report into a working tool for members.

Finalist publications showed the same ambition across different sectors. The Hardware Journal, produced by Hardware Association Ireland, shares product news and industry trends across retailers, builders merchants and manufacturers, linking every level of the supply chain. The Law Society Gazette translates dense legal information into clear narratives, telling stories from the perspective of solicitors, clients, victims and the public.

The Rhapsode digital bookshelf, from Chartered Accountants Ireland, takes the model further. Built into the institute’s primary learning platform, it gives students and professionals interactive access to course materials and textbooks, placing publishing inside the learning journey rather than alongside it. Its integration with formal courses shows how learning content can be searched, cross-referenced and used across devices, rather than read once and filed away.

The common thread is clear across these entries. Publications now carry learning, policy context and member engagement at once, and their value is measured by what members can do with them. For associations, the publication is no longer a secondary communications output but a core instrument of credibility and influence, reaching members in the moments when decisions are being made.

Judging across the category reinforced that standard. Entries were assessed on whether they moved readers from awareness to action, a benchmark that rewards editorial discipline, practical utility and sustained relevance to the professionals they serve.
